February 2008 ADVICE - Don't risk delays / contra-charges: We are aware that some 'scaffolding consultants' and even 'scaffolding designers' are undertaking safety inspections without suitable training first. In accordance with current CDM regulations and HSE advice - http://www.hse.gov.uk/scotland/infosheet.htm - safety inspections are to be undertaken by "qualified safety inspectors". All 2H designers are CITB approved Scaffolding Inspectors - are yours?
STOP PRESS! The new European code BS EN 12811-1 specifies 'clear access' at working lift levels, this has lead many scaffolding contractors to believe that 'ledger bracing' MUST be removed - THIS PRACTICE SHOULD NOT BE UNDERTAKEN WITHOUT PRIOR DESIGN ADVICE. As a general 'rule of thumb' 2H advise fixing ledger bracing through all lifts at alternate frames on traditional tied tube & fitting access scaffolds.
WARNING! System Scaffolding tie patterns ARE NOT the same as traditional tube & fittings tie frequencies. The most common reasons for scaffolding failures are insufficient or incorrectly installed ties, therefore, System Scaffolding manufacturers and suppliers now have a legal obligation to provide a copy of their 'erection guide' and 'tie patterns' to each site - contact your supplier prior to erection.Don't be conned - Contact 2H for further information: mail@scaffolddesigns.com scaffold-Design-company.
